If My Wishes Came True

Editor’s Note:  Unfortunately, I am sharing another one of my poems with you. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am certainly not a poet, but poems just seem to keep coming to me, so I immediately write them down. Please send any thoughts.  I appreciate hearing from each of you!

If my wishes came true

I wouldn’t be blue

I might even be able

To walk in a pair of Jimmy Choo’s.

If my wishes came true

I would run, ride my bike

I would sing and dance

Maybe even go for a hike.

If my wishes came true

I would live without pain

Maybe go back to work

And wouldn’t walk with a cane.

If my wishes came true

I would lose some weight

Run the New York City marathon

And take my husband out for a date.

If my wishes came true

The Phillies would be hitting the ball

Chase Utley would be back

And they’d be champs in the fall.

If my wishes came true

There would have been no mistake

Life would have proceeded on course

And my body wouldn’t shake.

If my wishes came true

My priority list would be new

Life’s lessons well understood

My troubles would be few.

If my wishes came true

There would be no bills to pay

Only shopping for antiques

Would be the course of the day.

If my wishes came true

There would be no sickness or pain

And cures for diseases

Would fall from the sky like rain.

If my wishes came true

There would be no pain in my neck

And life would have been normal

I wouldn’t object.

If my wishes came true

People wouldn’t be allowed to cheat, steal or lie

They would suffer the consequences

Each day ’til they die.

If my wishes came true

I would have my way

Not broken nor torn up inside

I would be a shining star up in the sky.

But wishes don’t always come true

And, we aren’t always meant to understand

The sins inflicted on us by others

So we must leave it to God’s greater plan.

About mswd

I am an individual living with a spinal cord injury. How the injury occurred, how I found out how severe my injury was and how my planned life suddenly became 'unplanned' is included in this blog. Also included is how the injury has tested my family and me. I believe you will discover it has been both a mentally and physically challenging ordeal and I learned a few lessons along the way. While I am still defining my life’s purpose since the injury, I have uncovered those who are injured, live with pain or have other obstacles to navigate are never able to escape. However, come with me as I explore ways to improve my life, learn to live with multiple neurological conditions, educate others and look for the silver lining. I believe with a little willpower, my caring family and God's guidance I will learn to forgive, hopefully forget how I was treated and dismissed by a doctor and uncover life's new purpose. I pray for painfree days and answers to questions that keep swirling through my mind. I also pray for a cure for neurological conditions and for the doctors to treat their patients with respect. Welcome to my journey. I would love to hear about yours!
